SIX MONTH REPORT: PHIL BAILEY

“Since joining Healy Hunt in January I have been pleasantly surprised at the number of new skills I have picked up just from having the autonomy to work my own way with the full backing of the business. I learnt very quickly at Healy Hunt that the word “relationship” means a lot more than having a casual email acquaintance with someone, it means knowing your candidates’ motivations, goals, pet hates, hobbies and what they define as success. It sounds simple but taking the time to sit down, listen proactively and provide someone with honest advice, even if it means you can’t help them, goes a long way. Some of the best relationships I have are with candidates I couldn’t actually help when I first met them. Now I find myself in a fortunate position of working exclusively with some exceptional Finance professionals because they trust me, I understand their backgrounds and they know I enjoy going on the journey with them.

I believe my biggest achievement at Healy Hunt to date has been establishing and building out the Finance Division of the business; the process is on-going. It is certainly the most exciting project I have worked on since joining the recruitment industry and I have been able to leverage my long-term relationships to bring across some really exciting candidates who buy into our philosophy and work ethic. I am also involved in some interesting work with a number of real estate investment trusts (REIT’s) this year who have been exploiting the downturn in cost and demand for land, leases and rents so they can provide a better dividend to investors. As a result, companies have more Finance work and increased revenue streams, which means I have some interesting mandates at present.

I don’t believe I have changed much in the way that I work as it’s the main reason I have the chance to write this blog today. I sat down with Paul Hunt (Chairman) and Mark Johns (Managing Director) before I joined and told them that I work hard, will always be honest, meet my promises and bring a good level of energy and fun to the team. If anything, the only thing I changed was actually being myself more when getting to know professional contacts on a human level. At the end of the day if I was looking for a new opportunity I would want someone to take away all the stress and worry of job hunting and know I was left in capable hands, so I base my work around that thought process as best I can.”

Phil is doing great work in Finance Recruitment and we look forward to working with him for years to come. Look out for insights from other team members in the future.
